After many years of city life, we decided we wanted something more. We owned one horse and had him boarded. We longed to have a place where we could have our big beautiful baby with us all of the time. We just wanted a few acres. After searching for a while, we found a 14 acre piece of land that we liked. We bought the land and moved to the country! We soon acquired our second horse, Bettye. We wanted to do something more with the land we have, but couldn't decide what. After some research, John suggested that we raise goats. Neither of us knew ANYTHING about goats, but the more we learned about them, the more interested we became. We finally made the decision to give it a go. We bought our first goats in August of 2002. We bought 10 nannies and one wether to serve as a companion goat. We have learned a lot about goats over the years, but we never stop learning. We have found that just when you think you are getting pretty good at goat tending, they teach you yet another lesson! We are so fortunate to have mentors with vast experience in this industry.
We have been blessed and our herd size has increased dramatically over the years. We are always striving to improve the quality of our herd through better genetics and better herd management. |
